After two very special years, the great comeback of the Cannes Film Festival, we finally roll out the red carpet, opening on Tuesday July 6th and closing on July 17th, of the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
For us at the Villa du Roc Fleuri, this is our 5th Cannes Film Festival, today our guest are coming back, what happiness! I remember our very first festival, we had an amazing guest, an Italian singer, who each evening gave a concert and left the Villa in magnificent dress. And other guest who run at 7:30 am so as not to miss the first screening, directors and professionals who decide on the cinema of tomorrow.
The history of the Festival
Founded in 1939, the Cannes Film Festival has always taken place in our city. However the first edition will take place in 1946, World War II obliges. It will aim to reward the best film, the famous Palme d’Or, but also the best director and also the actors. So the last edition will be canceled in 1939 and we will therefore have a second edition canceled in 2020, following the health crisis that we are still experiencing today.
Festival today
More than the Cannes Film Festival, this is the major event of the seventh art. There is of course, the Palme d’Or, but the Cannes Film Festival allowed the opening of parallel competitions like the directors ‘fortnight us to discover others; Jean-Luc Godard. But also the week of criticism and a certain look. Its mission, to highlight artists and their works, the hardest part of the work is to find the pearls that will be presented to us during the fortnight. As every year, mainstream films will be presented in the competition, while more personal films, said by the author, will be presented with a certain eye.
Cannes Film Festival 2021
It promises to be the big comeback of life on the Croisette and the grand reopening of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. This year New Yorker Spike Lee will be the president of the jury, I’m such a fan, and guest of honor Jodie Foster who will open the Festival on Tuesday, July 6th. She will receive the honorary award for her brilliant career and her strong commitments throughout her career. She was 13 when she first climbed the stairs and left with the Palme d’Or for the Martin Scorsese film Taxi Driver.
So to professionals, but also to film lovers, I believe that there is an event not to be missed, this year in Cannes, it is the festival and its rise of the steps. This is a real Festival, the stars will be able to pose without a mask and the audience will be accepted. And between each session it is so pleasant to be able to stroll at the Villa du Roc Fleuri or also bask in the sun. Unlike the month of May (the usual month for the Festival), there is no risk of a thunderstorm.
